(Introduction)

A Homoeopathic Pharmacopia furnishes the directions for the preparation of remedies. The methods of different preparations
from drug are based on the universally approved principles of Homoeopathic pharmacy. These are, therefore, necessarily to
be uniform in various pharmacopoeias.
Accordingly, this pharmacopoeia site is on the same pattern.
As some of the denominations of the co-related details about the drugs included in this Part have been omitted,
this introduction is intended as a guide to the order of furnishing the relative information about each substance.
The name of the substance with the respective Natural Order (N. O.) or Chemical Symbol, as the case may be ,
is first given followed by the most important of its synonymes and popular names, then follows the description.
The information about the distribution of plants as well as the
historical references about provings and title
of books, containing records of pathogenesis have been made a part of description.

In Homoeopathic Pharmacy, the medicinal preparations from drugs, mainly, are :

Mother Tincture. The tincture which is prepared from fresh whole plants or their
parts (roots, barks, leaves) and animal substances by immersing in alcohol is known as mother tincture or original tincture
and designated by the letter Q ; the alcohol is added as preservative.
Triturations. Minerals, chemical salts, certain dry vegetable and animal
products when ground with the milk suger into an inconceivable fine powder is called trituration.
Dilution. Attenuation or potentization of tinctures with liquid vehicle
is called dilution.
The other requirement is that of the details of the processes and methods of their preparation.
Dilutions are made from the original drugs or mother tinctures and triturations, by attenuation.
For the clarification of certain factors in relation to the methods of preparation of original drugs,
the process of attenuation or potentization requires detailed explanation in advance.
