English, Peeple tree, Sacred fig or Poplar leaf fig tree ;
Indian, Ashwathwa, Pippala, Pipal, Areyal, Arshemeram ;
Urdu, Peepal.
This is one of the largest of trees growing wild in various parts
of Pakistan and India. The trunk is woody fibrous very big in
diameter and well branched. The leaves are dicidous, cordate,
petiolate, acuminate and smooth on the upper. The bark is also
somewhat smooth and of brownish white color. Fruits are very
small in size and look like figs. “Pakur” is a different tree
which is called Waved leaf fig tree or Ficus Infectoria in Latin.
Found in :-
Throughout in Pakistan and India by the road-side and also found
wild in lower Himalayas.
